Judy Jenner / Examiner.com
I just received a press release from the press folks at MGM Mirage, announcing the closing of the somewhat legendary Brew Pub at Monte Carlo. It's one of those places that I've been frequenting since the mid-90s, so it's a pity to see it go. The Brew Pub was one of few drinking/eating/dancing options before the days of the megaclubs on the Strip, say, 1996, when your options were fairly limited to The Drink and later RA at Luxor and The Beach.
In traditional no-frills style, the announcement simply says:
The Brew Pub at Monte Carlo will close July 12, so please remove from all listings at that time. Future plans for the space will be released at a later date.
I am always quite dumbfounded by the lack of information. When openings happen, the announcements are always over-the-top, the tchotchkes fantastic, and no expense is spared. However, when a restaurant closes, which is just part of the natural lifecycle and a sad reality in food and beverage, we rarely get any in-depth information. In my mind, it's nothing to be embarrassed about, and I'd love to know why MGM Mirage decided to pull the plug on the pub. Not modern enough? Not in synch with some new direction the Monte Carlo is headed to?
So long, dear Brew Pub. Thanks for the memories -- all 14 years of them. _________________ . |

I loved it right up to the moment they tried to turn it into a night club. I hate loud obnoxious dance music while I eat... _________________ "There is no 'try'. Only 'do' or 'do not'."

Once they pulled the making of the micro-brews right there, I was done with the place.
That was the only reason I ever went to MC. |

I used to love that place too. I liked that you could get a great big tube full of beer...

| I've eaten there once, and enjoyed the experience. I thought they were going to close it a long time ago and turn it into more shopping? That was a few years ago I heard that? |

I also thought this place was long gone.
At the same time, I haven't visited the Monte Carlo in quite some time, though it used to be my "home" casino in Vegas. Over time, I feel that MGM has slowly ruined the place. From removing blackstones, to taking the microbrew out of the brew pub, to demolishing the parking garage (for city center I realize). Each time I returned to the place, something else had changed for the worse. The only thing MC has going for it is the poker room, which will probably have the Excal's electronic tables by the time I return. |

Last week was another of my trips to LV that I didn't set a foot in the place. They ruined the Brew pub when they took the brewing out! _________________ Here, hold my beer and watch this! |

Its been quite a few trips since I have been in there myself as well, but I always liked it when I did go.
They had great sloppy joe with tater tots that will be missed! _________________ Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes now, that's what you get for waking up in Vegas |
